Giuseppe Raffa is an Italian born musician and entrepreneur of rare refinement and elegance in style. A passionate and talented orchestra conductor, and energetic artistic producer, he has been defined by His colleagues as "the revolutionary innovator of concept stage".
He has studied at Music conservatory of Milan "Giuseppe Verdi"; specifically composition studies under Bruno Bettinelli and orchestra conducting with Mario Gusella. He then undertook specialization studies at the "Accademia Chigiana" with Franco Ferrara and in Paris with Pierre Deveaux.
In 1987, Raffa conceived and brought to maturity the first ever, large scale, touring operatic show destined for wide spaces such as stadiums and arenas. No one until then had embarked on such an ambitious and ground-breaking project.
What for many had just been an impossible dream to realize, materialized in a grandiose production of Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida, staged for the first time at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium. An impressive audience of 40,000 people on each of two consecutive nightly performances, attended what will become an emblematic project, the entire world will talk about.
By realizing such an unconventional and futuristic vision, Maestro Raffa opened the door to a new and extraordinary form of classical entertainment. A new concept that enhances the traditional artistic value – innovative technologies have since been used enthusiastically in all theatres – while allowing broader audiences to experience what seemed to be exclusive to few ones and confined to small spaces.
Maestro Giuseppe Raffa, a real precursor of times who proved his versatility and inventiveness, and a man of ingenious entrepreneurship, coined the slogan that defines his vision “Aida opera spectacular! Operama "Opera for the people!”
